11:38Vicky Cheng
Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.
Who Am I? (C1 Ice Breaker Speech by Vicky Cheng)
Hi, everyone, it’s been one and a
half years, and it’s finally my turn to introduce myself.
Have you ever written down your
dream when you were little?
Do you remember what your answer
was?
My answer was: I want to be a
teacher when I grow up.
Because I didn’t know any job I could
do but being a teacher.
Am I a teacher now? Am I doing my
“dream” job?
Let me tell you my story.
In 1997, my major was Culinary Management.
Am I a chef or a manager now? No. After being graduated from the vocational
high school. I asked myself: Do I like to be an employee in a restaurant or a hotel
in my whole life? No. I want to know what I can do in my future. I want to have
another way, another possibility.
In 1998, I chose my second major,
History, at Fju Catholic University. After four years of study, and one and a
half years as a part-time student in Academia Sinica中央研究院,
I was sure I didn’t want to be a history researcher, even though I really liked
to read history.
After several years of working
experience. I chose my third major, teaching Chinese as a Second Language in
2007. Then I got my Master’s degree, and got married at the same time.
After that, I became a housewife
and a home cook in America with my husband. I also started my small business
there; I sold lunch boxes for Taiwanese students in the college station, Texas.
What am I doing now?
I am a student counselor at NTNU.
My students call me “老師”.
In my past 35 years, I have built
three specialties. And I really become a
teacher.
In the end, I want to share this quote
from the movie, Forest Gump: “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know
what you are going to get.”
